A unique perspective on ACS

Although Catholic, I didn't have Catholic education high on my priority list when selecting a kindergarten for my oldest child. Then I attended an open house at Asheville Catholic School during catholic schools week. I was bowled over by what I saw and experienced that day - colorful, interesting classrooms, engaging faculty and staff (all of whom knew every child by name), bright, articulate children of all ages ready to tell me why their school was so wonderful, involved parents ready to help where needed, all composing a faith community in which everyone participated. I sensed this was a special place and enrolled my son in the next kindergarten class. I have never regretted this decision. That kindergartner is now about to graduate from the 8th grade atAsheville Catholic. The substantive knowledge that he has gained, the self-confidence, grace under pressure and the maturity he has developed is a direct result of his education at Asheville Catholic School.

After School Care Program

Mission

Asheville Catholic School's After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) was designed to meet the needs of its students (Pre-K - 8th grade) and their working parents. The purpose of ASEP is to provide a child-centered, safe, stimulating, and happy environment, which allows children to interact freely with others. Each day ASEP will offer an after school snack, homework time and recreation time. In addition, a variety of activities which include but are not limited to: music, games, arts and crafts, cooking and holiday parties will be an integral part of the program.

Registration Fee & Form

A non-refundable registration fee of $50 per family is required with your application. The registration form must be filled out completely and the information recorded on it should be kept current. Please notify the ASEP Director if there are any changes in business or personal information such as address or phone number during the school year.

Fees & Payment Policy Schedule

The ASEP Director must be notified in advance if a child is changing from full-time to part-time or part-time to full-time.

**Only one change can be made during the school year**

Full-Time

  • (4 or 5 days per week)
  • $240 per month for 1st child
  • $180 per month for each additional child (25% discount)
  • 1:00PM dismissals are included in the full-time monthly fee.
  • Optional "Discovery Days" - (held on teacher workdays) $50 per day / per child
  • The months of August, December, April, and June will be prorated at a rate of $12 per day / per child for full-time participants. Invoices will be sent home after the final day of these 3 months and will include prepayment for the following month (Aug/Sept, Dec/Jan, and Apr/May invoices will be combined).

Part-Time

  • $15 per day / per child
  • 1:00 PM dismissal days - $25
  • Optional "Discovery Days" (held on teacher workdays) - $50 per day / per child

Payments

Tuition for full and part-time children is due by the 10th of each month (or the 1st school day following, if the 10th falls on a weekend). A late charge of $10.00 will be assessed to all late payments. Families whose accounts are delinquent (after the 10th of each month) will be sent a past due notice mid month.

Alternate payment plans must be worked out in advance. Failure to comply may result in the removal of your child from the program. If the monthly payment is not received by the last day of the month the child/children will be excluded from the ASEP until the account is brought current unless arrangements have been made with the ASEP Director.

Checks are to be made payable to: ACS - ASEP.

Payments may be given to the ASEP Director directly, sent into the school office, or mailed to: Asheville Catholic School, 12 Culvern St., Asheville, NC 28804.

There will be a $25 charge for a check that is returned.

No refunds will be given for occasional misses.

All payment arrangements made between parents and the ASEP Director must provide for full payment before the end of the school term.

Receipts & Tax ID

You may request a monthly or yearly receipt from the ASEP Director. The ACS - ASEP federal tax ID # is 561275713.

Hours of Operation

During regular school days the program will operate from the time school is dismissed at 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.

On 1:00PM dismissal days, the program will operate from 1:00PM - 6:00PM.

ASEP will operate an optional all-day program (7:45AM - 6:00PM) on teacher workdays. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. This is not covered in the monthly fee. There is a nonrefundable $55 charge to ASEP participants for this full day program.

Policies

The ACS After School Enrichment Program follows the ACS calendar. Please check your calendar for details.

Call ACS at 252-7896 by noon if there is to be a change in your child's schedule for that day or send a note to school with your child so that your child's teacher, the office and ASEP Director will be aware of the change. Enrollment each day is limited to 28 students. Reserve a space for your child as soon as possible for days he/she does not regularly attend.

If ACS is closed because of inclement weather, ASEP will not operate.

If inclement weather approaches during the hours of ASEP operation, ASEP will close early at the discretion of the ASEP Director / ACS Administrators. Parents will be called and will be required to promptly pick up their children.

Children enrolled in an ACS extracurricular activity (i.e. basketball, drama, etc.) will be escorted to / from the activity.

Medication & Sick Children

Medication will be administered according to ACS policy. The container must be labeled with the medicine name, the child's name and the time to be given and whether or not refrigeration is needed. Parents will be asked to come for their child if the child has a fever or if the child has vomited.

Pick Up

Pick up is at the back door of the SEY House. Parents are required to sign their child/children out daily. The staff must be notified in advance in writing if someone other than the parents or authorized person on the registration form will be picking up a child. No child will be allowed to walk home alone or leave with someone not authorized by the parent on the registration form. In case of last minute (emergency) child pickup arrangement, please call the school before ASEP hours or call the SEY House directly after 3:15.

Late Pick Up

Parents may be assessed a $1.00 fee for every minute late beyond closing time. This fee will be included in the next monthly invoice. After the THIRD late pickup, a child may be expelled from the program with a two-week grace period to find alternative care. If your child has not been picked up by 6:15 and notification has not been given, one of the emergency number persons will be contacted to pick up your child. Once your child has been picked up by the emergency number person, a sign will be left on the SEY House door telling the name of the person who picked up your child and the After School worker will leave.

Attire

Children may bring play clothes to change into after school. Please provide ASEP with an emergency change of clothes for all Pre-K and Kindergarten students.

Snacks

Snacks will be provided daily. Please inform the ASEP Director of any food allergies or special dietary needs.

Personal Items

The program is not responsible for personal items (toys, electronics, balls, etc.) brought into the program.

Conduct & Discipline

The goal of this program is to establish an atmosphere in which all children will enjoy participation in the activities. If a child's behavior becomes a problem, privileges within the program will be taken away. Suspension or expulsion will be an option if behavior does not improve. If your child is acting extremely inappropriately or endangering other children, you may be called and asked to remove your child from the program that day with a suspension from the program. This is done at the discretion of the Director.

The program expects that the child/children will:

  • Remain with the group and staff at all times.
  • Be responsible for his/her actions.
  • Take care of materials and equipment properly and return them to their proper location when finished.
  • Arrive at the program promptly and orderly.
  • Remain quiet during attendance and when a staff member is giving instructions.

Methods of Discipline

  • Separation from the group activities (time out), withholding privileges, and service time (chores, etc.)
  • Parent/Staff conferences
  • Suspension/expulsion

Grievance Policy/Communication

We welcome any questions and suggestions and will strive to build an open line of communication between parents and staff. If you have a concern or problem let us know. If needed, a conference can be scheduled.
